Government aims to connect various departments and improve efficiency in expansion plan

More than 90 per cent of payments for government services could be moved online in the future as more and more Dubai residents become comfortable with payments on the internet, a government official has said.

Ahmad Bin Humaidan, Director-General of Dubai e-government, said within a few years electronic payments for government services will grow in popularity.

"The mission continues to move forward to the next phase of government integration at all levels," he said.

"In three years time the gap between manual and electronic payments will narrow down to become marginal in terms of payment transactions."

Bin Humaidan pointed to a remarkable increase in the number of users of ePay services, revealing that they generated Dh2.6 billion in the first nine months of 2011.

"There was a 52 per cent increase in amounts collected through the Dubai e-government payment gateway and a 63 per cent increase in the number of transactions compared to the same period in 2010," he said.

"This increase is an indication of the value and trust people express on the services we offer." He said the government's online services are being continually improved.

"We are utilising the best technologies to meet user demands and increase adoption [of the services]," he said.

"With a more integrated system the number of services provided will be less as several e-Services will be consolidated and automated in a single click."

E-government has signed several agreements during Gitex to enhance the integration of e-Services between government bodies through which transactions move freely across various departments.

"The result was an integrated comprehensive system of technical solutions that serve most government departments and provide the foundation for a fully integrated government."

"E-government is focusing on developing customer services that will help ease their lives and improve efficiency as well as create values to their lives and businesses."

Since the introduction of e-government in 2000, the services have grown from 14 to more than 2,000 in numbers. This means that the maturity of e-Service in the government sector is 90 per cent with 46 per cent integration among the various departments.
