Users can check status or print residency/visit visas among other services

In a bid to promote self-service, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA-Dubai) has installed several electronic kiosks in new locations.

The Amer self-service kiosk allows customers to access the GDRFA’s e-services such as conducting residency and entry transactions and inquiring about sponsorship files.

“We are aiming to completely diminish queues at the GDRFA counters. Through the self-service kiosk customers can access a multitude of the department’s services,” Maj Gen Mohammad Ahmad Al Merri, Director General of the GDRFA, told Gulf News. “Consequently, customers can access our services at their own leisure and need not crowd in front of our counters, resulting in a much more efficient and hassle-free experience.”

The Amer Self-Service Kiosk features identification and card scanners, a bar code scanner, a touch screen, a receipt printer and an A4-size printer. A telephone on the side of the kiosk allows customers to talk to an Amer customer service representative.

Six of the kiosks are installed at the GDRFA headquarters, four in the department’s external offices, one at Al Twar Centre, one at Dubai International Airport, one at the Ministry of Labour and one at Sharjah International Airport.

The interface is accessible in both English and Arabic.

Maj Gen Al Merri said the kiosk provides the best and most-advanced e-services to the public which are simple to use.

The kiosks allow customers to perform a variety of operations without the need to visit GDRFA’s counters, including applying for and inquiring about visa status as well as printing residence visas and other types of visas. The printing function allows users to print out their resident/visit visa and visa extensions. Emiratis have the facility to renew their passports instantly through this self-service.

Those applying for entry visas for relatives or employees headed for Dubai will be able to check the application status in real time and obtain printouts of documents.

“There are unique login interfaces for companies, individuals and general inquiries,” Maj Gen Al Merri said.

A SecureID is given to companies for added security to their files. The SecureID is an apparatus which changes a set of six digits every minute, that is to be added along with the login information.

Maj Gen Al Merri said more of the kiosks will soon be installed across malls and public spaces.

“Residents will be able to complete visa-related paperwork at their own time. They can do so while shopping or spending time with their families at shopping centres,” he said. “The aim of the machine is to make government processes and services more accessible and efficient.”
