Transforming Government since 2001

State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Regulatory Body and Danantara Indonesia will use SOE assets to develop 12 smart cities.

“The 12 smart cities being established in various cities will not cover thousands of hectares. But they will have schools, hospitals, and that is important. We will also create affordable housing for the lower-middle class,” said the head of the SOE Regulatory Body and COO of Danantara, Dony Oskaria, in Jakarta on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, as quoted from ANTARA.

This development aims to create integrated urban areas that support modern infrastructure and provide affordable housing for the lower-middle class.

Dony said the development of future cities aims to address society's broader needs, including access to adequate housing and public facilities.

Dony explained that the next phase of development would use several SOE assets, including PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) assets in Walini, Padalarang, the Batang area, and land in Deli Serdang, Medan.

The government will consolidate these assets to speed up the development of future urban areas.

To accelerate implementation, Dony encourages establishing business entities and immediately transferring assets so development can proceed without delay.

These 12 future cities are designed with integrated housing, educational facilities, hospitals, and other urban infrastructure.

The transit-oriented development (TOD) concept is also part of the area's planning efforts to support connectivity and create a more vibrant urban environment.

One of Padalarang's development plans includes providing around 200,000 to 250,000 housing units. The housing is planned to be affordable, supported by infrastructure and TOD development.

Through this development, the SOE Regulatory Body and Danantara encourage using state assets to create productive areas that provide direct benefits to the community. The future cities are expected not only to become new economic growth centers but also to provide access to decent housing and more equitable public facilities, especially for the lower-middle class.
