The conference dubbed “Smart Rwanda Day” aims at bringing together various stakeholders in ICT sector and international groups in a move to share experience in each country’s effort to bridge the digital divide across all socio-economic sectors.
“With use of the Internet and other modern communication methods, ICT will play a central role in improve service delivery in both public and private sector,” Nsengimana said.
He argued that Rwanda is currently emphasizing on assuming leadership in bridging the digital divide compared to its other African counterparts.
The second annual edition of “Smart Rwanda Day” will be an occasion for Rwanda to showcase a number of innovations in ICT sector that have been implemented as the Central African nation has already laid fibre optic cable which seeks to enhance access to various broadband services, like e-Governance, e-Banking, e-Learning, e-Health, and other applications.
Rwanda is especially looking to promote the use of ICT facilities as part of national efforts to promote job creation.
The newly launched mobile payment systems has already created more than 18,000 jobs across the country since it has been fully operational since late 2010.
