To achieve smarter cities, importance of human collaboration cannot be underestimated

If anyone required convincing of the need to make our cities smarter, more efficient, and increasingly sustainable, just consider that the global population is expected to hit nine billion people by 2037, and a majority of these people will live in cities and large metro areas. In fact, it is estimated that 70% of people will live in cities by the second half of the 21st century.

57 employees representing 21 entities from Abu Dhabi's e-Government are gearing up to participate in the 2017 Esri User Conference (Esri UC), the world's leading Geographic Information Systems (GIS) event, which is set to take place between 10 to 14 July in San Diego, California.

Organised by the Environmental Systems Research Institute (Esri), the event is considered the largest global GIS gathering that brings together more than 1500 GIS community members to communicate, exchange experiences and share knowledge on the latest technologies and innovations in the industry.

Abu Dhabi's Masdar City plans to take advantage of the capabilities of artificial intelligence to create more efficient and smarter techniques to support the UAE capital's smart city agenda, its chief executive has said.

The sustainable research and development hub, part of Abu Dhabi's clean energy company Masdar, aims to collect and analyse data in a "swift manner" to support its ambitions, Ahmed Baghoum told The National in an interview.

The meeting reviewed requirements of Abu Dhabi e-government to deliver Abu Dhabi Vision 2030, which seeks, among other objectives, to position Abu Dhabi among the world’s top five governments.

With the implementation of the strategy, Miral will expand its present investment in big data and predictive data analytics.

1st phase of the project promotes automated issuance of industrial licenses and enhances level of e-Government services

The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development’s (ADDED) Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) has announced the implementation of the first phase of its ‘e-connection’ project in partnership with local and federal entities to facilitate the issuance of industrial licenses in Abu Dhabi, with the first phase being launched with the Ministry of Economy (MOE).

The move came in line with ADSIC "e-citizen" Program to enable Abu Dhabi citizens benefit from government e-services.

Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, ADEC Director General and Rashed Lahej Al-Mansouri, ADSIC Director General signed the MoU at ADEC HQ.

This key message emerged as experts and leading customs officials reflected upon the development of the customs sectors within their own countries and regions in a session titled 'E-Government: An Added Value to Trade,' at the Middle East debut of the 2013 WCO IT Conference and Exhibition held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. The discussion was moderated by David Evans, Head of Tax and Customs Business Unit, Worldwide, BULL Information Systems.

The new e-Services will cut down considerably on paperwork as the Port moves towards its target of being a paperless operation.

ADPC is joined in the e-Services operation by Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT), which is operating the Container Terminal. ADPC controls access to the Port and issues licences, and ADT controls access to and appointments for the Container Terminal. In addition, ADPC provides the Port’s Marine Services.

The Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Centre (ADSIC), the governmental body overseeing Abu Dhabi's Information Technology agenda, hosted the 4th Abu Dhabi e-Government Forum held on June 3, 2013 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Abu Dhabi. The event attracted strong participation from 400 senior government employees and discussed various topics, most notably the e-Government strategy. New approaches to developing the skills of government employees and the latest developments in the implementation plan of the Abu Dhabi Government Services e-transformation program were presented.

The Abu Dhabi Spatial Data Infrastructure (AD-SDI) Program group recently received a delegation from the Fujairah Statistics Center (FSC) on behalf of the Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Centre (ADSIC) to share its knowledge and expertise in spatial data and geographical information systems. A four-day workshop was conducted to impart the visiting delegation with the best approaches and practices for using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for statistical computation. The FSC representatives were provided with comprehensive information on statistics-oriented GIS applications.

Abdul Kareem Al Raeesi, Executive Manager of the Spatial Data Centre, said: “The Spatial Data Program is a fundamental pillar under the Abu Dhabi’s e-government strategy. This workshop, organized by Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Centre in collaboration with the “International Institute for Environmental Research” ESRI forms part of a series of specialized seminars and events intended to enhance knowledge on and raise the GeoMaturity level. It will enlighten participants on the importance of spatial data acquired through the use of satellite images in different processes

To explore the best practice industry methods for delivering world-class contact centres. Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre (ADSIC), the government entity responsible for the emirate’s ITC agenda, recently participated in the Government Contact Centre Summit Middle East 2015, which took place at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Dubai from 17th to 20th May.

As the only event in the region dedicated to the government sector as a central gathering for senior contact centre professionals interested in learning, networking and planning for future developments, the two-day knowledge sharing event aimed at exploring the best practice industry methods for delivering world-class contact centres through efficient workforce management and modern technologies.

The Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Centre (ADSIC) recently shared its successful adoption of an emirate-wide multi-channel public services approach and mobility for the benefit of its citizens during the 4th Annual Kingdom e-Government Summit held recently in Saudi Arabia.

ADSIC was among the select government entities chosen for the exclusive invitation-only Summit, which hosted in-depth discussions on the delivery of technology-enabled public services to the region's businesses and residents. During the last day of the event, Khaled Habrout Al Mazrouei, ADSIC's Business Information Manager, showcased the Abu Dhabi Government Contact Centre (800555) program's multi-channel architecture.

The federal government revenue collected through e-Dirham reached AED 2,542,411,494 in Q2 2017, compared to more than AED 2 billion in the same period in 2016, achieving a growth rate of 25%. The federal government revenues collected through the e-Dirham payment gateway reached AED 958,461,182 in Q2 2017; while revenue through the service centres reached AED 1,583,950,310 during the same period.

The number of service transactions done through the e-Dirham system in Q2 2017 amounted to 10,837,965 transactions, compared to 9,966,134 in Q2 2016;while the total payment receipts amounted to 5,533,223, compared to 5,141,945 in Q2 2016.The total number of e-Dirham cards issued amounted to 2,730,720, compared to 2,102,466 in Q2 2016. The average execution time for e-Dirham transactions is now only 1.02 seconds online through the e-Dirham network and 1.03 seconds through e-Dirham POS devices.

Ajman has approved a remote working system permanently for government employees.
