  • IN: Kerala Tourism launches mobile based services for tech savvy tourists

    Reiterating its pre-eminence as a tech-savvy tourism board in the country, Kerala has launched a host of path-breaking mobile -based services and IT-enabled projects to further enhance the travel experience of visitors to God’s Own Country. Tourism Minister Shri A P Anil Kumar launched the new set of products - Mobile website, WAP guide, Apps for Android & iOS and Bluetooth Kiosks, on July 10, 2012.

    In his address, the Minister said, “Kerala is the first State in the country to adopt such mobile-based services for the benefit of the tourism industry. The new set of products will provide all necessary information to the tourists at their finger tips. This kind of technology will drive the growth of the industry and open new marketing avenues, apart from giving valuable information”.

    Visitors to Kerala State in India will find their stay very convenient with information provided at their fingertips as a result of a new set of mobile based services and IT-enabled kits developed by Kerala State.

    The projects include mobile website, WAP guide, Apps for Android & iOS and Bluetooth Kiosks.

  • UK: e-Tourism seen by Government as key driver for tourism's expected 25% growth

    Department for Culture, Media and Sport Secretary Tessa Jowell has spelt out that e-tourism will be a key tool for the Government to work with key partners to grow the UK tourism industry.

    e-Tourism is one of the only pieces of e-Government which actually generates net income for the UK from abroad, and can demonstrate considerable return on investment.

  • US: New 511 Travel Information App Goes Live in Virginia

    A new 511 traffic information system and mobile app is making travel a bit more predictable for Virginia commuters.

    Launched by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) on Wednesday, May 23, the upgrades to the state’s 511 platform include access to real-time traffic cameras, estimated travel times to locations, electronic message signs and real-time streaming video. The features are available online or via an app available for iOS or Android devices.
