  • 84 pct Chinese can go out without cash: report

    About 84 percent of the Chinese people can accept going out without any cash, according to a report of mobile payment usage in China released by Chinese mobile payment solution Wechat Pay.

    The report 2017 Mobile Payment Usage in China was released Friday during the 3rd Asia-Pacific Regional Forums on Smart Cities and e-Government which was held in the north suburb of Bangkok.

    Dubai eGovernment launched a new smartphones application that allow UAE customers to pay most of their utility, Etisalat bills, and traffic fines with a click, Hamad Bin Humaidan, Director-General of Dubai eGovernment announced yesterday.

    “The aim of the new application is not to increase the number of eServices across government entities, while we are working to integrate all available services in one-stop-shop.”

    Dubai’s Department of Finance (DoF) and Dubai Smart Government Establishment (DSG) have teamed up with Al Ansari Exchange to offer DubaiPay services on Al Ansari Exchange’s mobile app.

    According to state news agency WAM, Al Ansari Exchange’s customers can now use DubaiPay as an alternative payment option available on the app.

    The platform, launched by the Department of Government Support, will be accessible through the TAMM portal, offering customers a secure and standardised way of making digital payments for all government services across different channels. Customers will also benefit from multiple safe payment options, one time payments for multi party services and a unified experience across all government channels.

  • AE: Dubai Cares joins Dubai eGovernment’s mPay Portal

    Dubai eGovernment has announced that Dubai Cares has joined the mPay Portal service to stimulate and facilitate financial contributions by donors supporting its humanitarian projects. Accordingly, the service now covers four government entities, including Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Police, Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) and most recently Dubai Cares.

    To use the service, interested donors must first register via https://mpay.dubai.ae with their personal data and credit card number. A confirmation code is then sent via email to be mentioned in the SMS to complete the payment, along with the mPay password. For already registered users, all they have to do is click on Dubai Cares from the list.

    As part of its relentless pursuit to provide efficient and quality electronic services to achieve customer's satisfaction, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has launched the direct debit payment service with Lloyds' TSB's customers. This service enables DEWA's customers to pay through the banks' electronic channels, and allows the automatic transfer of funds to the customers' accounts at DEWA, and thus serves to immediately update their accounts.

    "Applying such e-services is in line with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote Dubai's pioneering role in the region as a hub for state-of-the-art technologies," said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.

  • AE: Dubai ePay service nets $1bn in 2011

    Dubai eGovernment said a total of Dh3.83 billion ($1.03 billion) had been collected through its ePay payment gateway, a portal for customers in the emirate to electronically pay for various government services.

    The ePay gateway forms part of Dubai eGovernment’s initiative to deliver government services through innovative channels with the aim of easing government transactions for businesses and the general public in Dubai.

    New features such as auto-payments have been added to Dubai eGovernment’s mobile payment gateway, making it easier to pay government fees or charges.

    mPay, as the mobile payment gateway is called, is currently used by a number of government agencies including Dubai Police and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.

    The update enables activation of auto-payment/auto-recharge of government services provided by mPay on a regular basis. Users are also able to control over the minimum balance and the maximum payment/charge per transaction.

    Dubai government to enable all payments by mPay

    Dubai Revenues from mobile payment transactions across three Dubai government departments jumped 325 per cent last year, and a top government official said all government services and transactions will be brought under the mobile payment system as it moves from “e-government” to “m-government”.

    “mPay” is a quick payment channel developed by Dubai eGovernment particularly for use in situations where users have to make instant payment of fines, fees for a continued service or charges to avoid a new fine.

    The number of transactions issued for m-pay in 2009 was 8,380. It increased 131 per cent in 2010 to 19,433, reflecting a shift in payment trends among Dubai residents he said.

    Dubai eGovernment recorded 11 per cent increase in mobile payment service, mPay, generating Dh8.5 million in 2012, according to the latest statistic released by eGovernment on Wednesday.

    While the number of mPay services has not been increased, the adoptability of the current service witnessed a remarkable hike up to 39 per cent in 2012, compared to 2011, Ahmad Bin Humaidan, Director General of Dubai eGovernment told Gulf News.

Matar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) announced that through Gitex 2012 platform the RTA will launch a galaxy of innovative e-services highlighted by payment of fare of public transport means (Dubai Metro, public buses and the Water Bus) through smart mobile phones using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.

    This contactless technology, where the mobile phone is passed over sensors mounted on the access gates of mass transit means, is the first of its kind in the Middle East.

    The registration system of IMEI codes of mobile phones has been integrated into the e-GovPay (SmartPay) payment system, the Data Processing Center of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan told Trend April 20.

    It is possible to pay for the registration of IMEI codes of mobile devices both online (via e-govpay.az website) and via e-GovPay terminals, which are mainly installed in some offices of Azerpoct LLC and telecommunications centers of state communication operators. By means of e-GovPay terminals it is possible to pay for utility services, communication services, TV, the Internet, etc.

  • Bahrain promotes mobile payment services

    Bahrain’s eGovernment Authority has recently launched an awareness campaign to facilitate public online payment for government transactions through the mobile app version of the National eGovernment Portal.

    Mohammed Ziad Asfour, eGovernment Authority Marketing and Awareness Directorate Assistant Director, said in an official statement, “The aim of this campaign is to encourage the public to use the e-payment of fees and contraventions through the mobile, familiarize them with the registration process for this state-of-the-art mode of payment while highlighting the benefits in term of saving a lot of time and effort.”
