The Ministry of Municipality and Environment yesterday launched a project which will help upgrade and make available about 300 services online under its digitization programme.
The initiative is part of a major project of the Ministry which is being implemented under Qatar e-Government 2020 Strategy.
Last year Oman relaxed its visa rules to attract more tourists by granting Visa on arrival (unsponsored tourist visa) for the Citizens of India, China and Russia who reside in or who hold an entry visa to one of these countries – United States of America, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom and Schengen States to enter the Sultanate of Oman.
To further facilitate the process, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) announced that from 21st March 2018, visas will only be granted electronically via the URL: https://evisa.rop.gov.om and there will be no more hand-processed visas at the airport effective that date.

The details of the 6th round of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in e-Government were unveiled at a press conference at Sundus Rotana Muscat hotel on Monday.
Dr. Salim bin Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, CEO of the Information Technology Authority (ITA) stressed that the award aims at encouraging local institutions to promote their performance and facilitating their services through benefiting from the digital technology, besides stimulating those institutions to set up new e-projects and continuous development of e-services.

As part of their CSR programme, Ooredoo has partnered with Al Roya Press and Publishing to launch a digital literacy programme which will empower more than 900 women with essential Information Technology (IT) skills. Backed by Ooredoo’s team of technical experts, the initiative will include 30 training sessions in nine Wilayats to help nurture the digital lifestyle benefits provided by smartphones, e-government services, and other personal electronic devices.
The training sessions will be organised in Barka, Al Mussanah, and Al Suwaiq from 10 to 14 December 2017, followed by seminars in Al Khaburah, Saham, Sohar, Shinas, Liwa, and Al Rustaq. Inspired by the company’s dedication to championing human growth, participants will learn how to leverage the full potential of the internet, discovering the benefits of smartphone technology, how to filter online content to protect children from spam and maximise the digital landscape for educational purposes. As well as involving members of the local community, graduates of the company’s incubator programmes will also participate to further their knowledge of the digital world and take their IT skills to the next level.
