Transforming Government since 2001
The value of increased traffic from Directgov to council websites and the associated efficiency savings can now be measured through a benefits calculator, available free to download from this link in Excel format. The tool was developed to help local authorities measure the value of increased traffic gained through Directgov referrals. It's an excellent e-government initiative from the ENvironment and Community Online Residents E-Services (ENCORE) local e-government National Project.

Estimated benefits are based on best available research, but default data can be bypassed with better council-specific information if and where that is available.

Despite very conservative savings estimates based on just paper and postage cost savings (traditional forms being replaced by e-transactional forms), the national savings are significant.

Local authorities are expecting an additional 3.7m customers through their own marketing efforts over the next 5 years and Directgov will contribute an additional 1.4m customers.
