  • Bahrain: eKiosks to offer quick services

    Bahrain has launched an innovative way to provide eServices to the public through self-service eKiosks. About 35 eKiosks will be set up in different parts of Bahrain, under an agreement signed by the eGovernment Authority (eGA) with CrediMax.

    eGA chief executive officer Mohammed Al Qaed and CrediMax chief executive Mohammed Malik signed the agreement.

  • Bahrain: Electronic swipe cards a success at airport

    An electronic swipe card system which allows travellers to pass through Bahrain International Airport without going through immigration checks has passed a two-month trial.

    They are currently operational in the arrival hall and will soon be commissioned in the departure hall, the Supreme Committee for Information and Communication Technology (SCICT) heard yesterday.

  • Bahrain: Establishment of 'Silah Gulf' to provide integrated solutions in call centers

    The eGovernment Authority signed an agreement yesterday with Merchants, a leading provider of contact centre solutions, to establish a new company, named "Silah Gulf", which will provide a full range of integrated contact centre solutions on a local and regional level.

    The partnership also paves the way towards launching the National Contact Centre, the fourth and final integrated government eService delivery channel, having previously launched the eGovernment National Portal (Bahrain.bh), Mobile Gateway, and Common Service Centres.

  • Bahrain: Forum spotlight on portal

    The importance of Bahrain's National Portal in boosting business and trade ties were highlighted at a major forum. The eGovernment Authority in Bahrain shared its expertise with delegates from across the GCC and the region at the event.

    The two-day third Gulf eCommerce Forum 2009 opened yesterday at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre under the patronage of Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Hassan Fakhro.

  • Bahrain: Forum to focus on e-government

    E-government transformation in Bahrain will come under focus at a major conference at the Ritz Carlton Bahrain Hotel and Spa tomorrow .

    Cisco Systems is organising the event in partnership with the Central Informatics Organisation (CIO), under the patronage of Royal Court head Shaikh Mohammed bin Ateyatalla Al Khalifa.

  • Bahrain: Free Net soon for villages

    Villages across Bahrain will soon have fully-equipped computer labs and free Internet as part of a BD200,000 project by Batelco.

    A deal was signed by Batelco chairman Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and the governors of the five governorates at the company's headquarters in Hamala.

    "We will provide free computers and Internet access at 30 centres spread across villages, for those who are not normally able to afford them," said Batelco media and government relations general manager Ahmed Al Janahi.

    THE Bahrain government announced the successful implementation of the first phase of its e-Government project.

    The whole government has switched to the Windows 2003 server operating system, which allows for easier administration and collaboration across departments.

    The eGovernment Authority today signed an agreement with the Nielsen Company, the world's leading provider of marketing information and audience measurement indices. Present at the signing were Mr. Mohammed Al Qaed, CEO of eGoverment Authority and Mr. George Mikaelian Managing Director Gulf region for Nielsen as well as other senior officials from both parties.

  • Bahrain: GOYS and eGovernment Authority sign agreement to support 'Zain eShabab'

    His Excellency Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa President of the General Organization for Youth and Sports (GOYS) and Mr. Mohammed Ali Al Qaed the CEO of the eGovernment Authority (EGA) attended the signing ceremony of the partnership agreement where eGovernment Authority is the strategic partner to support the eShabab program organized by GFB.

    The program is launched by Zain Bahrain as part of Zain Dreamers programs to enable talented and innovative youth in the field of IT.

  • Bahrain: Health sector reform

    The Kingdom's health sector is to undergo a major upgrade with the introduction of a new database system which will ensure that patients' files can be accessed from any government hospital in the Kingdom.

    This project, which was discussed yesterday by the Cabinet, will ensure greater efficiency and professionalism in the health sector and will guarantee patients better quality healthcare.

  • Bahrain: Hi-tech project for architecture

    Bahrain is set to become the first country in the Gulf to upgrade and standardise the level of information communication technology in all government buildings.

    The Enterprise Architecture Project aims to streamline governmental procedures and make access to them quicker.

    E-Government Authority chief executive officer Mohammed Al Qaed unveiled the plan during a seminar at the Movenpick Hotel.

  • Bahrain: Hi-tech training for government employees

    Government employees could soon be learning new skills, without even leaving their seats, thanks to e-learning.

    Bahrain is currently preparing to switch over fully from paperwork to the e-government network, to help save time, energy and manpower and to improve services to the people.

    "If the network is beneficial to the people, then it should be so to workers," said Civil Service Bureau (CSB) deputy head Ahmed Al Bahar.

  • Bahrain: Hi-tech way to promote culture

    Bahraini arts, culture and heritage could soon become just a click away with a pioneering project to promote Arab e-culture. A recommendation for the project was presented to the Information Ministry's Culture and National Heritage Department by experts at the closing session of a specialist seminar held at the Diplomat Hotel yesterday.

    The two-day seminar, entitled the Cultural Encounter for the GCC, was organised by the ministry's department as part of the 2006 Spring of Culture.

  • Bahrain: ICT experts to study development strategy

    Bahrain will host the biggest regional information technology conference of its kind later this year.

    The eGovernment Authority (eGA) signed a strategic partnership agreement with the Information and Communication Technology Conference for the Middle East and North Africa 2009 (MENA ICT 09).

    The conference, from November 17 to 19, will be held for the second time after the success of the first conference in Beirut last year.

  • Bahrain: Internet roadshow spreading the word

    A group of 30 Bahraini university graduates have been trained to popularise the use of the Internet as part of an e-government strategy.

    They will conduct a series of road shows, and the first of them are being held at the desert camps in Sakhir.

    A special tent has been erected with a number of laptops, which are available to campers.

  • Bahrain: Is e-government a bad idea?

    Bahrain’s e-gov services are the most advanced in the region. But as other Arab states play catch up, some say this digital revolution makes life harder for the public, and that millions of dollars are wasted on expensive IT systems.

    At first blush, it seems like launching e-government services is a win-win situation.

    Proponents argue that connecting with citizens via the internet is more convenient for both parties, offers greater efficiencies and helps cut costs in the public sector.

  • Bahrain: Keeping pace with ICT key to future growth

    Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa yesterday called for increased efforts by all to keep pace with advances in the field of information communication technology (ICT).

    Shaikh Mohammed, who is also the Supreme Committee for Information and Communication Technology chairman, was speaking as he formally opened an ICT Exhibition at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre.

    The two-day event, part of the Bahrain International e-Government Forum 2009, is being held under his patronage and is organised by the Bahrain Society of Engineers in collaboration with the Bahrain Internet Society and the Bahrain Information Technology Society.

  • Bahrain: Key e-training for employees

    Government employees are being offered e-training courses to enable them to deal with new advancements in technology, it was announced yesterday.

    A Memorandum of Understanding was signed yesterday between the Bahrain Public Administration Institute (BIPA) and the eGovernment Authority to implement the Micro e-Learning project.

    Present at the ceremony, held at the authority in Juffair, were BIPA director-general Dr Raed Bin Shams, eGA chief executive officer Mohammed Al Qaed and a number of officials from the two organisations.

  • Bahrain: Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) wins two awards at major web forum

    The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) won two of the eight awards for government ministries and organisations, presented at the opening of the Bahrain International e-Government Forum last night. The LMRA won the awards in the E-Maturity and E-Content categories.

    The awards were presented by Deputy Prime Minister and Supreme Committee for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) chairman Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa.

  • Bahrain: Labour Market Regulatory Authority unveils hi-tech multilingual website

    Bahrain's Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) has launched a cosmopolitan multilingual website which can be translated into more than 50 languages.

    Labour Minister and chairman Dr Majeed Al Alawi yesterday patronised the launch ceremony.

    Chief executive officer Ali Ahmed Radhi and senior officials attended the ceremony at the LMRA headquarters in Sanabis.
