  • Brunei: UBD To Host International Conference On Business, Management

    On January 8 and 9, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) will host the International Conference on Business and Management at its Chancellor Hall.

    Among the topics to be discussed will be Beyond Managing e-Government Projects by Dr Yong Chee Tuan from UBD's Department of Business and Management.

    According to Dr Yong Chee Tuan, e-Government is a journey that focuses on the deployment of information Technology (IT) to enhance services with core activities that include the adoption and implementation of appropriate IT.

  • Brunei: Upgrading IT Skills, Knowledge

    Information technology (IT) practitioners were urged not to rest on their laurels as "development and growth needs to be at its peak in Brunei", said Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BAG Networks Haslina Taib yesterday.

    During a training session, she said that it is important to constantly upgrade skills and knowledge and learn best practices relevant in the technology field. "In BAG Networks, people development is an important part of our growth strategy. We will always be constantly seeking opportunities to learn and grow with our global partners like Accenture and Oracle," she said.

    Hj Mohd Abduh Dato Seri Setia Hj Abdul Salam, acting permanent secretary at Ministry of Religious Affairs stated this during the launching of the Temburong District Office and the 22 Village Consultative Council blogs which will be used to promote Temburong District.

  • Brunei: Visits to Oman, Bahrain to share knowledge on e-govt

    Brunei can expect further improvement and efficacy in the implementation of e-government initiatives in the country following visits to the Sultanate of Oman and Bahrain where Brunei delegation discussed and shared knowledge as well as experiences in e-governance with the host countries.

    Brunei delegation, headed by the Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Dato Seri Paduka Hj Eusoff Agaki Hj Ismail, who is also the chairman of E-Government Leadership Forum (EGLF), conducted the visit from April 26 until 30, according to a press statement from the e-Government National Centre (EGNC) yesterday.

  • Brunei: Vital Role Of Quality Control Conventions In Improving Service Quality

    Quality Control Conventions (QCC) play an important role in generating the spirit of determination and dedication of every officer and employee in using ICT facilities to help the government improve the quality of public services, said the Permanent Secretary yesterday during his speech at the Quality Control Convention 2010 held at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

    According to Permanent Secretary (Youth and Sports) Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Hamid Hj Mohd Jaafar, all the officials and staff of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports who had gone through the E-Government programme are now well-equipped by being able to conduct activities and deliver services more effectively through electronic means or "online".

  • Brunei: We Need An E-Directory

    As we are going to fully "utilise" e-government on which the Government has been spending millions of dollars on "e-government it self' has been "made" as full pledge department, as members of the public we would like to send letters to the government agencies on matters of public concern like traffic lights, jam prone areas, drains which are blocked and flooding the roads (like Jalan Bunut and part of Jalan Gadong) - we are facing problems - the problem is we could not find the email addresses.

    I would like to see and suggest that email addresses should have its own directory (like the telephone directory) after all there are only 12 ministries and about 50 plus departments.

  • Brunei: Website Contest For Ministries, Department

    In a bid to improve public service delivery, the Department of Information will be holding an official website competition for ministries and departments under His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's Government, according to a media release.

    "The move is aimed at improving the image of the ministries and departments under the government while providing updates and important information to end-users from time to time," Acting Director of the Department of Information, Hj Mahrub Hj Murni told The Brunei Times yesterday.

  • Brunei: Workshop on ‘smart card' usage, facilities

    A workshop on the usage of a smart card was held yesterday morning, at the Immigration and the National Registration building in the capital.

    With the introduction of the new smart card, a total of 161,774 (yellow), 29, 164 (purple) and 152,773 (green) card holders have been registered in the Sultanate.

    The Ministry of Religious Affairs yesterday held a roadshow to promote its e-Islam Information Kiosk on the ground floor of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Yayasan Shopping Complex in the capital.

    The ceremony began with a recitation of Al-Fatihah, followed by welcoming remarks by Awang Haji Abu Bakar bin Mohd Don, Acting Assistant Director of Administration at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Chief of Information Technology Centre.

  • Brunei: You Can Now Pay Utility Bills At Banks

    Bandar Seri Begawan - A New government utility bill payment has been introduced allowing existing water and electricity customers to pay their bills through participating banks effective yesterday following the signing of agreements between the government and respective banking institutions.

    In addition to the existing Department of Electrical Services (DES) and Public Works Department (PWD) counter services, customers can now pay their bills through online banking, automated teller machines (ATMs), cash deposit machines, cheque deposit machines and phone banking.

    The media plays an important role in disseminating information on developments and activities either through the print media or the internet. In this regard, the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation this morning held a Media Appreciation ceremony as well as the launching of the Foundation’s Official Website.

  • Brunei: YSHHB's Revamped Web Site Launched

    The Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation (YSHHB) successfully launched their new website yesterday, answering the calls made by the E-Government strategic plan 2009-2014, with a view to providing accessibility and information on YSHHB's initiatives.

    Launched by Minister of Communications Pehin Orang Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Hj Abu Bakar Hj Apong, as Chairman of the YSHHB Board of Directors, the new website is far more informative and in-depth, which includes several specific areas, according to the foundation's Managing Director Dato Paduka Hj Ali Hashim Hj Daud. "Websites are one of the most effective mechanisms of disseminating information, quickly and easily, to the entire community," said Dab Hj Ali Hashim.

  • Brunei:e-Gov't Strategic Plan aim to identify gov't department that need the electronic-aid services

    In conjunction with the launching last May of the 2009-2014 e-Government Strategic Plan, a survey was conducted to identify government department that need the electronic-aid services. The survey was carried out along with the Prime Minister Office and the Brunei Info-Com Federation and implemented with the e-government National Centre and the Brunei Accenture Goup-bag Networks Sendirian Berhad.

    The Senior Special Duties Officer at the Prime Minister Office, who is also the Acting Director of the National e-Government Centre said the survey is open to all rakyat and resident in the country with the target number of between two to three thousand people. The survey was conducted since December 4th and will go on for two months and throughout the four districts.

  • Brunei's E-Govt Issues Highlighted At Conference

    Issues related to Brunei Darussalam's e-Government initiative were discussed during the first day of the International Conference on Business and Management at UBD yesterday.

    According to a paper by UBD lecturers from the Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies, Dr Patrick Low Kim Cheng, Dr Mohammad Nabil Almunawar and Dr Fadzliwati Mohiddin, e-Government may imply a restructuring and reengineering of government business processes.

  • Brunei's websites need updating

    Instead of accurate and up-to-date information about the government and its activities, the public is finding out that some websites of Brunei's ministries and government offices actually contain information that are more than a year old.

    In fact, in some cases, the sites were last updated in 2005.

  • Bruneian receives ICT literacy award

    The director of Seameo Voctech has received the Champion of Digital Literacy award for leading digital education in the sultanate.

    Mohamad Abu Bakar received the award at a gala event at Certiport Pathways 2007, an international conference in Orlando, USA, in July of this year.In a press statement, Mohamad had stressed that Brunei's e-government projects had "set the stage for widespread digital literacy", and that the project would require more than 10,000 government personnel to receive ICT training.

  • Bruneians Still Prefer Passports To FTC

    The new new uniformed border control system between Brunei and Malaysia has rendered the Frequent Traveller Card (FTC) redundant as most Bruneian travellers prefer using their biometric and standard passports, which are not stamped under the new system.

    However, the Malaysian travellers are still using the FTC as the Malaysian authorities are yet to upgrade their system.

  • Brunnei: E-Govt Data Centre To Be Launched Soon

    An e-Government data centre which is being built will be launched very soon, and will be used in a few months' time, said Deputy Minister of Communications Dato Paduka Awg Haji Yusof bin Hj Abdul Hamid yesterday.

    That is where the data will be stored and all the connectivity will be done in the building, he said in response to a question on ICT infrastructure and on data centre during a press conference.

  • Chance To 'Like' Winning Name For Brunei's E-Govt Portal

    The E-Government National Centre (EGNC) will be launching Brunei's first E-Government Portal for a complete one-stop-shop for online government services and information. The portal will eventually host all the E-Government services such as electrical bill payment, application and renewal of licenses and passports, renewal of road tax and many more. With the introduction of this portal, the increasingly tech-savvy Brunei public can now obtain updated information on government services and manage their tasks with greater convenience and simplicity.

    The EGNC invited the public in December 2010, to help them name their new portal through a contest on the phenomenally popular social medium - Facebook. With half of Brunei's population connected to Facebook, EGNC hopes to engage the public to enter the contest via their fanpage on the social site.
