  • Lukashenko wants information technology in every sector of Belarus economy

    Information technology should be implemented in every sector of the Belarusian economy, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the 5th Belarusian People's Congress on 22 June, BelTA has learned.

    “Today there is no sector (from finances and banks to industry and agriculture) that has avoided IT penetration. Therefore, our main goal in the area is not just to develop a full-fledged e-government or increase software exports. The main goal is to implement information technology in every sector of the economy. It is one of the most efficient methods for reducing costs, optimizing management and improving competition,” Alexander Lukashenko noted.

  • Makarov: Belarus needs national law on information security

    Belarus needs a national law on information security, Deputy Chief of the National Security Institute Oleg Makarov said during the 11th international conference on the management of information flows held at the Academy of Public Administration under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Belarus, BelTA learned from the director of the academy's press center Yuri Zaitsev.

    "The development of a state is associated with information technology. At the same time, information technology creates new threats to national security. People have started feeling the impact of a destructive influence, including cybercrime and various information manipulations, which, among other things, exceed the harmfulness of real-world threats given the vastness of the Internet,” said Oleg Makarov. According to him, Belarus still does not have a national law on information security, and this is a big problem. In the near future it is planned to prepare a number of normative acts and bilateral international agreements in this field, such as the current Belarusian-Russian agreement, he added.

  • Minsk (Belarus) ranks 49 overall E-Governance

    According to the Digital Governance in Municipalities Worldwide 2005 report, prepared by the E-Governance Institute at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, Campus at Newark and the Global e-Policy e-Government Institute at Sungkyunkwan University 2005 Minsk (Belarus) took the 49th place in overall e-governance ranking list.

  • New Belarus government department to co-ordinate e-government

    The Belarus Department of Informatization under the Ministry of Communications and Informatization is to be established in Belarus in accordance with a recent presidential decree.

    The new department will be responsible for the co-ordination and integration of automated information systems for the various state agencies.

  • NG: NIGCOMSAT begins IOT satellite service for Belarus

    The Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) at the weekend officially commenced the provision of In-Orbit Test (IOT) service for the Belarus National System of Satellite Communications and Broadcasting called Belintersat.

    The service which NIGCOMSAT won through international bidding, it was learnt, would rake in $6 million for Nigeria for the 15-year period the service would last.

  • Shedko: Innovative systems will make Belarus' governance model more efficient

    Further implementation of innovative systems will make Belarus' governance model more efficient, First Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Belarus Dmitry Shedko told the Belarus One TV channel as he commented on the Belarus President's speech at the 5th Belarusian People's Congress, BelTA has learned.

    “First of all, in order to streamline our administrative models we should pinpoint the sectors where our efforts bring the minimum effect, i.e. to get rid of paperwork and mechanical work. These must be replaced by automated systems, systems supporting managerial decisions. The international experience in this area is huge. The e-government system has been introduced in a number of countries. We are moving in this direction and are confident that we will be able to transform the administrative process in Belarus in a couple of years,” said Dmitry Shedko.
