  • Theme set for 4th e-Governance Africa Forum

    The theme for this year’s e-Governance Africa Forum has been set. Organizers, the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO), said the event will be held under the theme “Effective Governance, transparent public services and citizen empowerment through Information and Communication Technologies”.

    The event, aimed at facilitating and promoting information and communications technology development through knowledge-sharing events, is scheduled for Maputo, Mozambique, from 23 to 25 March.

  • UAE: IQPC hosts Gov Tech EMEA

    In accordance with the UN and endorsed by Dubai e-Government and the Institute for e-Government of Germany, IQPC is able to bring GOVTech EMEA, a global benchmarking forum with leading e-governments, regional knowledge exchange, and shared learning, to Dubai November 2-5 2008.

    Nine of the world’s top 30 leading E-Governments convene in Dubai, along with 13 regional case studies to excel the development and promote best-practice in E-Government and government modernization in the Middle East, Northern Africa, and Western Asia.

  • UK:IDeA e-champions conference:Highlighted the mainstreaming of e-government

    The IDeA e-champions network annual conference and exhibition 2005 - “mainstreaming e-government: mainstreaming efficiency” - took place on 20 September 2005, attended by more than 300 e-champions representing local authorities from England and Wales.

    With both Government funding drawing to a close and all local services expected to be available online by December 2005, the event provided an opportunity for reflection, critical debate and celebration of the “journey of continuous improvement’ that is the e-government agenda.

  • US: CIOs and CTOs from Across Government Discuss Shared Services at GITEC Summit in Baltimore

    Over 300 CIOs, CTOs and IT visionaries from throughout government and industry gathered at the Government Information Technology Executive Council (GITEC) annual Summit to discuss the future of Shared IT Services in the federal government sector.

    The 2.5-day program took place at the Sheraton Inner Harbor hotel in Baltimore Maryland. The Summit began on Sunday evening on May 20th with an opening keynote by US CIO Steve VanRoekel outlining his plans to help agencies find savings by using shared IT services, eliminating duplication and inefficiencies, and consolidating datacenters.

  • USA: Maine Online Conference to Focus on Web Accessibility

    Maine's focus on making its online government services accessible is the topic of an upcoming statewide event. The Maine Office of the Chief Information Officer and members of Maine's Web accessibility subcommittee will be participating in a free online conference to explore the changing face of Web accessibility and usability.

    The Collaborative Road to Maine State Web Accessibility online conference will cover topics ranging from the technical challenges associated with creating and maintaining accessible Web pages to navigating the political landscape surrounding accessibility issues.

  • Vernetzte Welt: E-Government beschäftigt Informatiker

    Das Internet rückt näher, auch wenn es nicht immer gleich erkennbar ist. Im Alltag bleibt es zunehmend im Hintergrund, hilft mit Verkehrshinweisen, Routenplanung sowie Fahrplaninformationen und Reservierungsmöglichkeiten. Eines der zentralen Themen der Jahrestagung der Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI) in den Dortmunder Westfalenhallen ist das Zukunftsthema E-Government. Mehr als 700 Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer werden sich vom 30. September bis zum 03. Oktober 2002 in Vorträgen, Workshops und der Fachausstellung mit der Frage beschäftigen, was die Informatik zu einer leistungsfähigen, bürgerfreundlichen Verwaltung beitragen kann.

  • Vietnam: Symposium planned to plug E-government

    The fifth Viet Nam E-government Symposium in December will discuss the increasing importance of having an active online presence for state and local governments.

    The conference will be held in HCM City on December 4-6 by the Ministry of Information and Communication, HCM City’s Posts and Telematics Department and International Data Group (IDG).

  • Weltgipfel der Informationsgesellschaft als Mega-Event

    Über die offizielle Schlusserklärung zum Weltgipfel der Informationsgesellschaft (WSIS, 10. bis 12. Dezember) wird seit gestern noch einmal in Genf verhandelt. Gleich, ob ein Kompromiss über die Menschenrechte, globales Netzmanagement und die Finanzierung digitaler Brücken noch gelingt oder nicht, mit einem angeschlossenen Mediengipfel, einem vorab stattfindenden Forschungsgipfel des Cern und einem Alternativgipfel der zivilgesellschaftlichen Gruppen zu Kommunikationsrechten und Schweizer Gruppen wird der Gipfel zum Megaevent. Das WSIS-Beiprogramm umfasst über 300 Einzelveranstaltungen.
