Indonesia is prepared to take the lead in digital transformation in Asia through the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology that is inclusive, ethical, and supports people’s welfare, Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid said.

At the Asia Economic Summit in Jakarta on Thursday, she noted that AI has been a major driver of change in several sectors. With the right strategy and governance, Indonesia has the potential to become a major digital power in the region.

Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid and Secretary of the Nanning City Party, Guangxi Province, China, Nong Shengwen, discussed Indonesia's digital transformation and opening up opportunities for AI use in agricultural and smart city development.

"Cooperation in the digital infrastructure between Indonesia and China is the largest among cooperation with other countries. This has supported connectivity to remote areas of Indonesia through 4G and 5G technology," Hafid noted during the meeting here on Tuesday.
