Italy beat the USA in the yearly income statements sent through the web and the quantity of on line tax payment. That's what the minister for technology and innovations, Lucio Stanca, pointed out at the convention on the "2nd phase of e-government - the role of provincial councils and small towns". "The comparison between Italian and US results - he said - showed some surprising results. In 2002, almost 100 pct of income statments in Italy were sent through the web, compared to the USA's 38 pct. The same went for e-payments, 7 pct in the USA and 9 pct in Italy". Stanca also stressed that "the distribution of PCs in the central public administration offices has been completed: 70 pct of the employees had a PC in 2000, 86 pct in 2002. The ones who have a e-mail box soared from 24 pct in 2001 to 40 pct in 2002 and 60 pct in 2003".
