Transforming Government since 2001
"In the government programme there is a digital reformation of the country, a silent reform, which does not enliven living rooms and fill squares, but is essential and fundamental for the modernisation of Italy and its competitiveness” said the Innovation and Technology Minister Lucio Stanca, intervening at the 2nd National Congress of Forza Italia at the Forum di Assago. He traced the lines of the modernisation programme of the country which rests on digital innovation. "At this moment in Italy” said the Minister, “there is great attention to debate and the need to do more on the innovation front. I do not hide the fact that I am happy this awareness has been raised, also because innovation rests on the quality of human resources, besides upon research and the spread of modern technology. Therefore I claim for this government the credit of having three years ago put technological innovation at the centre of political attention and public opinion through coordinated and well-aimed action”. Stanca also recalled how this digital reform policy rests upon five areas: Citizens, with the “i” of I.T. for Italians; E-Government; Competitiveness of companies through digital infrastructures; the Mezzogiorno. "In these areas some undisputable concrete progress has been made. I belong, and am proud of it, to the group supporting a culture of ‘doing’ and ‘results’. That which has been done so far, half way into the term of government, confirms yet again that we can reach all the objectives which we had set ourselves at the time".

"For the first time in Italy” continued the minister, “we have given life to an Innovation System, through a shared vision of a shared and coherent national strategy. An important step in view of the federal architecture which our country is delineating, in which information and communication technology may carry out an important role of coordination. As in the case of the Public Connectivity System, a true and proper “Digital Highway” which will put all public administrations in communication with to the same standards of technology, organisation and security. An enormous organisational effort which didn’t just drop from the sky, but saw the involvement of the government, regions and local bodies which tested the sharing method in these three years, making of the SPC the first federal infrastructure of the country” concluded Stanca.
