Once completed, Chippewa Falls will be a hub for rural communities in Northwest Wisconsin to connect with other existing networks more efficiently than ever before.
“This initiative will greatly enhance our electronic medical record and telemedicine services to our rural communities,” said Ray Myers, Assistant Administrator of St. Joseph’s Hospital. “What is exciting is that it will also benefit the community as local emergency response teams, schools, and city governments will also be able to use the enhanced broadband network to connect to their partners much more efficiently.”
The grant will fund the installation of fiberlink network in three phases over the next three years:
- Replacement of an existing 12 strand fiber with a 72 strand fiber to relieve a bottleneck in Chippewa Falls.
- Connect Chippewa Falls Emergency Services to the network.
- Build a 1.9 mile extension in Chippewa Falls to provide a point of connectivity to multiple rural health community facilities in northwestern Wisconsin.
