New Service Saves Citizens Time and Travel

The Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) today announced the launch of a new online service at that allows suspended drivers to pay their license reinstatement fees online. Now, citizens across the state can reinstate their driver’s license from the convenience of their own home or any computer with an Internet connection.

The service streamlines the reinstatement process for suspended drivers by accepting Visa, MasterCard, or Discover through Vermont.gov’s secure payment system. Users can access the service at https://secure.vermont.gov/DMV/reinstatement and from the Online Services page of www.Vermont.gov.

“We are very pleased to offer this new online service,” said Bonnie Rutledge, Commissioner of the Vermont DMV. “We expect the service will save time for many suspended drivers by allowing them to pay the fee to restore their privileges without leaving home. Additionally, the service is linked directly to Court Pay, the Vermont Judiciary’s online service that allows people to pay violations online.”

Citizens who use the service will have their driving privileges reinstated only after they have satisfied all reinstatement requirements and received written notification of reinstatement from the Department of Motor Vehicles. Often these requirements include payment of traffic or other civil violations. By providing the Court Pay service in conjunction with the Driver’s License Reinstatement Service, the process for satisfying reinstatement requirements is greatly simplified. Users who have successfully satisfied requirements will receive written notification status of reinstatement within seven (7) business days of payment.

According to Commissioner Rutledge, the new service, like DMV’s online service for vehicle registration renewal called DMV Express, represents the department’s commitment to Vermonters who increasingly wish to save time by conducting business with the DMV “online, rather than in line.”
