We will continue to seek ways to grow eGovernment for the accessibility of Nebraskans.”
Nebraska.gov has been ranked among the top 10 state sites in six of the last nine years by Best of the Web, which recognizes the most innovative and user-friendly state Web portals. Sites are judged on delivery of public services, efficiency, economy, and functionality for improved citizen access. The Digital Government Achievement Awards recognize agency and department services that enhance the ways constituents do business online. Representatives from the Center for Digital Government and officials from the 2007 Best of the Web-winning state and local governments served as judges for both competitions.
“The new design of Nebraska.gov increases accessibility and focuses on user activity, said Brenda Decker, Nebraska’s Chief Information Officer. “We continue to receive positive comments from our citizens on the new site, and the feedback box on the site allows citizens to give us direct input for new enhancements as we continue to evolve Nebraska.gov.”
In January 2008, the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles launched its new Web site, which includes the online license reinstatements system. The reinstatement option gives citizens the ability to pay a driver’s license reinstatement fee online instead of requiring them to travel to the Lincoln office. The site also now allows individuals to use a credit card to pay the required reinstatement fee to the Department of Motor Vehicles through Nebraska.gov’s secure payment processor.
“It is a 350 mile drive from the westernmost city in Nebraska to Lincoln,” said Beverly Neth, Director of the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles. “Our new Web site cuts that drive from hours to seconds. The online reinstatement option is a prime example of government using technology to ease interactions for its citizens. I encourage citizens to check out our new site options the next time they need to do business at the DMV.”
