Transforming Government since 2001
Innovative http://transparent.utah.gov honored with 2009 GCN Agency IT Award

Government Computer News (GCN), a leading provider of government technology news and information, recently recognized Utah as having one of the top government IT projects of 2009. The Utah Department of Administrative Services, Division of Finance was honored recently in Washington, D.C., at GCN’s 22nd Annual Awards Gala for the Utah Public Finance Web sitesite.

The State of Utah’s Public Finance Web site is a one-stop transparency resource for accessing Utah’s financial information such as expense records, financial reports, financial audits, payroll data, and more. Utah taxpayers are now just a click away from being able to see how their tax dollars are being spent. This free eGovernment service permits Utah taxpayers to view, understand, and track the use of taxpayer dollars by making participating state entities' public financial information available on the Internet.

The GCN Awards recognize governmental IT teams whose innovative use of technology over the past 12 months have made significant contributions to the performance of their agencies. Utah was the only state to receive this prestigious recognition in 2009; all other projects were federal initiatives.

“The annual GCN Awards honor agencies for their outstanding achievements in the application of information technology to advance their work and the services they provide,” said Wyatt Kash, GCN Editor-in-Chief. “The 2009 agency winners are now part of a tradition of innovation, excellence, and service. We congratulate them for their extraordinary work and their continued dedication to better serving the public sector.”

Award winners were profiled in GCN’s October 12, 2009 issue and online at www.GCN.com. According to the published special report, “The resulting site, transparent.utah.gov, offers a simple but powerful interface. Users can select a level of government, specific entity, transaction type, and time period from drop-down menus.”
