Commissioner of Economic, Housing and Community Development Tayt Brooks said that as of August 2, owners of mobile home parks in Vermont are now able to complete a required annual registration online.
“This is another example of how we are using technology to be more efficient in state government,” Brooks said. “Eliminating the paper involved in filing these reports makes the process faster, less costly, and less time-consuming for both the applicant and our staff.”
Every year since 1995, Vermont’s 245 mobile home parks have provided information to the state for the annual registration and paid a fee of up to $9.00 for each occupied lot in the park.
Money raised from the fee is used for administering the mobile home park program, providing professional mediation in lot rent disputes and collection of mobile home park data for reports to Vermont’s Legislature.
There are roughly 6,900 mobile homes and approximately 7,200 lots located in mobile home parks, defined in statute as a single parcel with more than two mobile homes on it.
“We recognized that the program used to maintain the mobile home park database had become outdated and obsolete and had been exploring options for its replacement,” Brooks said.
In 2009, the department contracted with the Vermont Information Consortium, the official eGovernment partner for the State of Vermont, to develop a new Web-based service that will offer greater functionality and convenience.
With the new system, park owners will be able to register their mobile home parks and pay the lot fees on the Web. The state will verify the information and address any questions with the park owner via phone or email.
The new service provides more efficiency and security of the data, while making it easier to generate the required reports and statistics and query information, and enables the Department to consolidate other mobile home park information it is required to maintain.
