The Capital City beat out Seattle and L.A. on the list.

Artificial Intelligence may be taking over the world — seriously y'all, cut it out — but that doesn't mean there aren't cities trying to use technology to better our lives. A new study has ranked the Top 10 "smart cities" in the U.S. by where they stand for tech and sustainability and Texas stood tall on the list.

Coworking Cafe describes smart cities as places that "employ data analytics, innovative infrastructure and eco-friendly initiatives to create connected and efficient urban environments." The list focuses on making a futuristic vision a "tangible reality" with "urban centers worldwide integrating technology and sustainability to enhance the quality of life for their residents."

Austin has been no stranger to the tech world with everyone from IBM to Meta and Google carving up space over the years. The Austin-area communities such as Round Rock and Taylor have also become a home to the tech industry with the likes of Dell and Samsung setting up shop.

Consequently, Austin was ranked No. 5 on the list with a score of 50, beating out Seattle and Los Angeles. The city's "rapid tech job growth" and over 4,000 jobs advertised were key factors in its ranking.

"The city ensures connectivity for professionals with 71 coworking spaces and 156 free Wi-Fi hotspots. Its robust EV infrastructure includes 622 charging stations, supporting the adoption of electric vehicles," the report reads. "Austin’s strong IT industry presence fosters the development of smart technologies, while its expanding AI sector contributes to its reputation as an innovation hub. City policies that encourage tech innovation and sustainability position Austin as a leader in smart city initiatives."

The ranking was made using three "weighted groups": Smart infrastucture and connectivity, sustainability and green Initiative, and tech job market.

San Francisco took No. 1 on the list, followed by New York, San Jose and Washington D.C. Austin, Seattle, Los Angeles, Boston, San Diego and Philadelphia rounded out the list.
