The local government unit of Balanga City has partnered with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) to advance its vision of becoming a "smart city."
The partnership is under the Linking Innovation Partners towards Accelerated Development in the Philippines (LIPAD PH) program.
LIPAD PH is a joint initiative of DOST Central Luzon and DAP, which aims to transform Balanga into a smart and sustainable city.
As an initial step, a three-day Smart City Validation Workshop and Visioning was held to validate assessment findings and refine strategies in pursuit of the city's vision of a smart university town under the Smart and Sustainable Communities program.
Through collaborative discussions, data validation, and expert guidance from DAP and DOST, the concerned groups identified challenges and opportunities across six critical domains -- governance, environment, mobility, living, economy, and people.
The DOST said the initiative marks a significant step toward promoting innovation, sustainability, and inclusive development.
The agency emphasized that it would help establish the city as a thriving hub for education, technology, and economic growth.
The DAP, for its part, said it will "support the city in harnessing the power of data, the promise of innovation, and the beauty of inclusive governance to improve the quality of lives of the residents of the city."
