Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr., proudly announces the new and improved state Web site, www.Utah.gov. "We are very excited to bring Utahns even more great ways to interact with the government, and I invite everyone to go online and take a look."
This iteration is the fifth redesign in six years. Launched in May, Utah's new state Web site boasts new content about volunteering and democracy, a dynamic news page, and, as always, 24/7 customer service. The new content areas, called "special interest portals," target specific needs. For example, Help Your Neighbor www.HelpYourNeighbor.Utah.gov) is a volunteer resource Web site that directs visitors to myriad of volunteer opportunities at their regional volunteer center.
"The Help Your Neighbor site is a great new way to highlight the spirit of volunteerism in Utah," said Governor Huntsman. "The Help Your Neighbor site will direct people to where the needs are most pressing as well as provide information on how to keep our communities safe."
Utah's new electronic democracy site is another "special interest portal" that offers citizens unique ways to get involved in Utah civic life. The electronic democracy site, named iGov (www.iGov.Utah.gov), connects users to information on elections, voting, and how to participate in Utah government.
In addition to special interest portals, Utah.gov boasts cutting-edge Extensible Markup Language (XML) technology to allow different Web pages to share breaking news effectively. The Utah.gov News site (www.News.Utah.gov) uses XML technology to provide real time news stories about Utah government. Also, Utah.gov introduces a Web site for Utah alerts, including AMBER for missing children, weather, PowerForward for energy conservation, and Homeland Security. This site (www.Alerts.Utah.gov) is likewise powered by XML technology.
In terms of customer service, Utah is still ahead of the pack with its 24/7 Live Help Network, around-the-clock online and phone-based customer service. Last month, in fact, Utah.gov's 24/7 Live Help Network won first place in a nationwide government customer service competition.
Utah's Chief Information Officer, Stephen Fletcher, stresses the importance of customer service as a critical component in the delivery of online government services. "We believe that the best way to improve services throughout state government is to implement excellent customer support systems. And that's exactly what we've done."
