CelcomDigi Bhd has partnered with Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) for the digital development of Hulu Kelang, to expedite the districts' transformation into a smart city.
With this ten-year partnership, both organisations will collaborate to explore and implement potential 5G technology solutions.
The solutions will be delivered on a solid fibre optics infrastructure, with an ambition to build a smart city ecosystem that will elevate the livelihoods of residents and accelerate the growth of businesses in Hulu Kelang.
CelcomDigi chief executive officer Datuk Idham Nawawi said the partnership with MPAJ is a strategic alliance with a shared vision to build a feasible smart city infrastructure and ecosystem model.
He added that CelcomDigi and MPAJ are working closely to assess and identify the best smart city solutions that will transform Hulu Kelang into an integrated digital district, creating a modern and sustainable environment that both promotes economic growth and improves the welfare of its residents.
"We aim to leverage the best of local and global technology partnerships to develop this ecosystem.
"We hope it can serve as a model to benefit other municipalities, with the net effect of having an interoperable network of smart city solutions in more areas across the country," he said at the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony of CelcomDigi and MPAJ here today.
The signing was also witnessed by Selangor chief minister Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
Amirudin said the partnership proves MPAJ's determination to form a smart city, in line with the state government's desire to transform Selangor into a smart state by 2025.
"It is my utmost hope that the efforts to be implemented under the Smart City initiative will result in a positive impact on the ecosystem in an inclusive manner. "This impact should extend not only to society but also to the economy and the environment," he noted.
Meanwhile, the partnership is also in support of MPAJ's "Smart City Framework" a visionary plan developed in January 2022 to transform Ampang Jaya into a smart city with a focus on smart infrastructure, smart economy, smart community, smart environment, and smart governance.
As the preferred provider of connectivity and digital solutions for this endeavour, CelcomDigi will oversee the coordination and implementation of the smart city-related solutions and technologies specifically in Hulu Kelang district, the pilot project area for the development of Ampang Jaya Smart City.
As part of this collaboration, CelcomDigi will also spearhead a sandbox that brings together an ecosystem of interested parties with smart city solutions, such as innovators, entrepreneurs, startups, technology providers and device manufacturers.
The company will test their products and services in a live environment, and potentially implement these solutions in the Hulu Kelang smart city initiative.
As part of its smart city initiatives to-date, MPAJ has installed CCTV, Wi-Fi and Smart Junction solutions in several locations within MPAJ's administrative area.
