The project, cleared by the Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, is expected to create about 4 lakh jobs in the rural sector and proposed to be rolled out by March 2008.
The CSCs, when fully operational, will help people enjoy higher disposable income achieved by reducing time and costs in obtaining the government and private services and through enhanced employment opportunities available digitally, the spokesperson said.
The project is expected to substantially extend the reach of digital services and economic opportunities into the rural and remote areas of the country, she said adding the CSCs are proposed to be set up in 18 months i.e. by March 2008.
DCI entrusted dredging in Sethusamudram project
The Government on Thursday entrusted the Dredging Corporation of India with the work of dredging 69 million cubic metre in the Sethusamudram Ship Canal Project (SSCP) at a likely expenditure of Rs 2,077.25 crore.
"The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (ccea) today gave its approval for 69 million cu. Mt of dredging in four packages to DCI on nomination basis," an official spokesperson said after the CCEA meeting here.
Project to strengthen power lines in NE region approved
Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today approved a Rs 975.96 crore project to strengthen power lines in north eastern region.
"The CCEA gave its approval for an estimated cost of Rs 975.96 crore including interest during construction (IDC) of Rs 45.72 crore for eastern region strengthening Scheme-I of Power Grid Corporation of India," an official spokesperson told reporters here.
The project would be completed within 36 months.
