Online system of filing petitions launched in Krishnagiri

Public need not wait in queues to get their grievances redressed or in front of a clerk at a Government office to get their birth or community certificates. Submission of forms is just a click away!

Taking the lead

As part of the e-governance project, Krishnagiri Collectorate has taken the lead in helping applicants with simple procedures. This online system of filing petitions is the first in the State.

The project — brainchild of Collector Santhosh Babu — was developed through National Informatics Centre (NIC), and launched at the Collectorate and village panchayats of Mookandapalli and Poonapalli in Hosur block on Monday. More than 600 petitions were registered the first day.

"People can file their petitions through a village panchayat kiosk or from home by logging on to www.krishnagiri.tn.nic.in/gdponline. The petitions should be not more than 500 characters.

A separate Grievance Code Number would be allotted to each petitioner, with which they can monitor the status of their petitions.

They could also call up the toll-free number to be provided in the upcoming Call Centre in Hosur to monitor the status of their petitions," Mr. Santhosh Babu told The Hindu.

The petitions can be accessed by the departments concerned through specific user ids and passwords. The Collector would monitor the status and the number of petitions pending with each department every Monday.

The aim of this scheme is to reduce interaction between people and government offices, and maximise interaction between people and Government. Out of 337 panchayats in the district, computers have been provided to 110 panchayats.

Entrepreneurs and unemployed educated youth would be selected to run Internet kiosks at these panchayats, which would function as a one-stop shop for many works.

Plans are afoot to introduce biometric sensor in the next stage, Mr. Babu added.
