Transforming Government since 2001
Imagine a one-stop solution for paying your phone bills, electricity bills, charging cell phones and even getting the timings of the movies playing in the multiplex in your neighbourhood.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is trying to do just that by setting up information kiosks outside your colony and in the market next door. These air-conditioned and weather-resistant information kiosks will be operated by a private firm and will help the cash-strapped MCD boost its revenue collections.

According to Standing Committee Chairman and BJP councillor Vijender Gupta, these information booths will be set up with the touch screen facility and will be open 24x7.

“This service will be convenient for everyone and is part of the e-governance project, which is a priority in our agenda,” Gupta said on Monday.

“The kiosk machine will be screen enabled, credit/debit card facility for payment and transactions and there is also a facility to charge a mobile phone in case of an emergency. It will also give information on parking lots and hospitals in the locality. The kiosk will also provide basic information on airlines and trains,” said Gupta.

Meanwhile, the civic body is hoping to generate revenue by charging a fixed commission on each transaction made. The MCD will also give out space for advertisement which includes visual displays flashing on the information screen. Nearly 2.5 lakh kiosks will be set up across the Capital.
