The official website of the Government of Tamil Nadu on Thursday bagged the best government website award in the National Awards for e-Governance.

The national awards for e-governance for 2007-08 were announced by the Central Government. Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology A Raja will give away the awards during the 11th National Conference on e-Governance to be held at Panchkula, Haryana on February 7-8.

In the category of best government website awards, while the Tamil Nadu Government bagged the gold, the website of department of Rural Development of Government of Andhra Pradesh could manage the bronze award.

The best government website award seeks to recognize the department that have contributed most towards development of a content enriched and visually appealing website, enhancing public access and service delivery through use of ICT.

In the category of outstanding performance in citizen-centric service delivery, the Nemmadi, e-governance secretariat, Government of Karnataka bagged the silver. Similarly in the category of exemplary horizontal transfer of ICT-based best practice, the VATsoft- VAT processing system in commercial taxes department in Karnataka Government bagged the bronze.

In the category of exemplary usage of ICT by PSUs, while the electronic procurement system in Rourkela steel plant bagged the gold, the revenue e-auction for transportation contract Visakhapatnam steel plant got silver.
