Centre had received 262 entries from different states for these awards

The Gujarat government’s e-governance project has won laurels for it by winning five national awards in 2008-09. The Union government had received 262 entries from different states for these awards.

Jay Narayan Vyas, the spokesperson of the state government, said the Central government’s administrative, public grievances, and information technology departments have recognised the exemplary work done in five segments of the state’s e-governance project.

He said the e-governance project has won one gold, one silver and three bronze medals.

The minister said the e-governance project achieved success because of the efforts made by Chief Minister Narendra Modi in building an effective IT infrastructure in the state. He said this model brought an all-round development in the society.

Vyas said the e-gram project provides 13,693 gram panchayats with broadband facility, which has been highly appreciated. He said Gujarat is the first state to achieve this distinction.

The national awards will be presented in Goa on February 12.
