The project would be implemented in Public Works, Civil Supplies, Excise, Commercial Tax and Local Fund Audit departments along with the Directorate of State Lotteries, Directorate of Social Welfare, Directorate of Industries and Commerce, Directorate of Tribal Welfare, Directorate of Sainik Welfare and Directorate of Fisheries, functioning at the Public Office Building and Vikas Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram.
Speaking to Express, IT Secretary Ajay Kumar on Tuesday claimed that the IT Mission could successfully complete the implementation of Secretariat WAN and under the project as many as 3500 computers of the Secretariat were networked. Secretariat WAN is the largest Campus- Area-Network (CAN) of the State Government. This network facilitates the information- system services in the offices of the ministers and the heads of all administrative departments located within the Secretariat.
The ‘Department WAN’ interconnects the computers of the head offices of these departments to avail data, voice and video services. Common network security services like network-firewall and antivirus would also be made available within the network from a common Network Operating Centre.
The Department WANs will facilitate proliferation and participation of e-governance activities to more offices of the administrative departments and will facilitate access and use of common IT services like e-mail, Payroll, File Flow, File Tracking and Video Conferencing.
“The department WAN will be an extension of Secretariat WAN and we have facilitated the procedures for completing the initiative without any delay,” Ajay Kumar said.
The IT Mission and the departments concerned would jointly spend the money for executing the project.
