The government today said that the cabinet secretariat will be paper less by April next year. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, cabinet secretary K M Chandrasekhar said he has already started electronic files in the cabinet secretariat.

Mr. Chandrasekhar urged upon all other government departments to follow suit. He said over 80,000 common service centres have sprung up across the country and the number is expected to cross one lakh by March next year. He said the government is working to cover all panchayats under common service centres by 2012.

Common Service centres have been established to deliver over six hundred services like land record copies, certificates etc of various departments of the Centre and State governments.

AIR correspondent reports apex committee of national e-governance plan (NeGP) was held today under the chairmanship of cabinet secretary. Among others Nandan Nilekani, unique identification authority chairperson and adviser to the Prime minister on information and infrastructure, Sam Pitroda attended the meet.
