To make the process of paying various dues of Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) a smoother one, the civic body will be installing multi-functional transaction kiosks in the city. According to RMC officials, they have purchased the first such kiosk which will be installed at Amin Marg city civic centre here on an experimental basis.

RMC officials claim that the civic body is the first to introduce such a system for tax payment in the state. "At present, people pay their dues either at different city civic centres or through post offices. However, more often than not citizens have to wait in queues. Also, all these offices have fixed working hours. But, through these kiosks, people can pay their dues at any time," an RMC official said.

"Five such kiosks will be installed in the next three months at various places, which will be easily accessible to people. "At the kiosk, citizens can pay their due by cheque, cash and credit card or debit card. We are hopeful to get good response for the new service as it will be helpful to citizens and will save their time and energy," an RMC official said.

The official also said that this 24/7 service will begin with property tax. "After property tax, we will add services like professional taxes, water charges, awas yojna' scheme EMI collections among others in a phased manner," the official said.

"We want these kiosks to be interactive rather than being just a collection machine. We plan to put up all details related to RMC and make it a medium for giving out important information and instructions to citizens," he said.

RMC has already been running various e-governance and m-governance-based services for its citizens which include 15 SMS-based services, for which it recently bagged a national award.
