Adding yet another feather to its cap, the official website of Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) Hotels & Resorts (www.ktdc.com) has won the Kerala State Tourism Award for most innovative use of Information Technology in the field of Tourism for the year 2009-10. The awards were given away by the Tourism Minister Shri Kodiyeri Balakrishnan at a function today.

Talking to Kerala IT News, Cherian Philip, Chairman, KTDC said, “As the official host to God’s own country, this website is a great asset for us. We have realised that online booking is our greatest weapon for tourism promotion. The award is recognition of our efforts to adopt the latest technology to boost our business.”

KTDC had very recently bagged the Kerala State e-Governance Award 2009 in the 'Best Website' category for its web marketing initiatives. The KTDC website is designed and maintained by the Trivandrum based Invis Multimedia, the designers of the award winning Kerala Tourism website (www.keralatourism.org).

Ajith M R, Director, Invis Multimedia, said, “The website has some innovative features. It was a challenge to put up the virtual reality show on the website for all the KTDC properties. The ‘feel the property’ feature helps in faster decision for the prospective customers as they can check out the location and even the rooms while researching online before booking.”

The online booking feature saves time and money for the visitors and KTDC. Direct booking through the website helps KTDC save on the commission it would have otherwise paid to its booking agents. The KTDC website which was launched in 1998 has a Google Page Rank of 6.
