It is mulling to inter-connect all the government offices of the state through State Wide Area Network

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir is mulling to inter-connect all the government offices of the state through State Wide Area Network (SWAN) which envisages a common and high speed data network, aimed at promoting transparency and efficiency.

Minister for Information Technology and Science and Technology, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi said that SWAN will be of immense benefit to people of the state.

“The intra-state network subsequently will be connected with the national network, aiming at modernization of communication infrastructure and improving administrative efficiency and quality of service to the common man,” Ruhullah said.

“With the help of this programme, the citizens will get effective government services with easy access through single window system.”

Government hopes that once the system is in place, it will greatly help in fighting corruption at various levels in the state. Ruhullah said that many more steps have also been taken to promote e-Governance in the state.

For making Common Services Centres (CSC) service more effective, Aga Ruhullah said that they will be connected with broadband facility. Out of 1109 Common Services Centres assured to set up by J&K Bank in the State, 491 stands established and is fully functional.

The CSCs are providing B2C services to the consumers at Khidmat Centres including banking correspondence, micro finance, mobile recharge, air and railway ticketing, sale of solar lights and digital photography the meeting was informed.

The 135 blocks have Community Information Centres with V-sat connectivity, computer terminals and printing facilities, the meeting was informed.

According to officials, 24 services of 11 departments under G2C service and State Service Delivery Gateway (SSDG) scheme would be provided to the people. “50 computers will be provided in every district and 7 services will be provided in first phase,” an official said.
