Transforming Government since 2001
The government schools in the city are all set to be “tech-savvy” in the coming academic session with all the school records - right from staff and student attendance to examination results - being managed online via Management Information System (MIS).

In line with Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) guidelines on e-governance in school education, the UT Education Department is going to launch the system in the city.

A pilot testing project for the system was launched in Government Senior Secondary School (GMSSS) Sector 33. For bringing the system in place the Department has tied up with Daedals Software Lab Private Limited, a city-based IT solutions company.

As per officials, MIS will maintain particulars of the employees (service book), student information records, centralised biometric attendance records and leave management records of both school staff and students.

In addition, MIS will also provide online access to projects taken up by School Management Committees (including the expenses made), the report cards of students and all other clerical details to the Education Department.

DPI (Schools) Sandeep Hans said, “The key purpose of the project is to reduce file work. A lot of time gets wasted in manual access and surveillance of information relating to the schools. With the new system, our office will have online access to all kinds of details.”

At present, the Education Department has online access only to the attendance of the school staff and students, which is compiled and sent across by the school heads every Monday via email. The project will be launched in all 104 government schools at the beginning of the 2012-13 academic session. The schools will be made to update online details regularly.
