The latest plan is to set up an 'e-procurement portal,' which will act as a single-window clearance and monitoring system for all 'goods, stores, works and services' required by any government department. The online framework, according to officials, will also be made available for all state-affiliated boards and corporations, as well as for the regional PSUs.
"E-tendering was recently introduced in the state, but there hasn't been uniformity of approach in this area," said an official. Each department having its dedicated websites, according to the official, made the process 'cumbersome' and created 'management hassles.'
"The aim is to make all procurements, of goods or services, more transparent and efficient," he said. A private firm is being hired to put the IT infrastructure in place for the e-procurement project, which is 'envisaged to be a single point access to the information on procurements made across various departments, boards and corporations,' according to an official statement. A training programme for department officials in Gurgaon and other districts will be the next step in the current programme. "Each department in every district will be given a separate work area to perform back-office activities related to the e-procurement system," said a state official.
