Transforming Government since 2001
Nagaland state in northeast India will be holding a state-level workshop on e-procurement, marking progress in India’s efforts to bring about procurement reforms across the country.

Alemtemshi Jamir, Chief Secretary of Nagaland, requested all Heads and Assistant Heads of Departments of the State Government to attend the workshop on 19th September organised by Ministry of Commerce and Industries, National Informatics Centre (NIC) and Government of Nagaland.

This event falls under a larger project, led by the Department of Commerce at the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP). The national level project aims to implement standardised e-procurement systems at State Government departments, across the country, improving transparency and efficiency in government procurement activities.

The Government is looking to establish a one-stop shop for government procurement-related services, while cutting procurement cycle time and costs. The Government has proposed the adoption of common standards in order to allow collaboration across government departments, facilitating the project’s objectives.

According to the Government, government procurement accounts for about 3.4-5.7 per cent of the GDP. Thus, efficient procurement practices are important from the perspective of lowering procurement cost, ensuring transparency and encouraging good governance practices.

The e-procurement system is to include services such as vendor management, indent management, e-auction, contract management, and e-billing and e-payment.

Nagaland currently has an e-procurement portal, nagalandtenders.gov.in, developed and hosted by NIC, and maintained by the Finance and IT Departments of Government of Nagaland.
