An agreement over this has been reached during the ongoing Sweden visit of the Kochi Corporation delegation, which includes Mayor Tony Chammany, opposition leader K J Jacob and education standing committee chairman R Thyagarajan who met Kumla Mayor Katarina Hansson and opposition leader Mats Hellgreen.
The visit was organised by the International Centre for Local Democracy (ICLD) as part of ‘Municipal Partnership Programme’. As part of this international collaboration, selected students from three schools in the city will visit Kumla before October. This initiative titled ‘School Atlas Program’ is aimed to involve selected schools from both cities in an exchange and collaboration programme.
The city will also receive financial assistance from Kumla to set up plants to process chemical, industrial and electronic waste.
The Swedish city will also provide their expertise on waste management, techniques, machinery and the best solution for implementing recycling and waste disposal and sewerage system in the Kochi corporation.
Apart from state officials, the ongoing three- day discussion was attended by Ted Rylander, Kumla international coordinator and chief of Waste management Anders Larsson.
The Mayor’s office said that all expenditure of the visit was borne by the Swedish International Development Corporation Agency (SIDA). The Mayor will return after the visit on June 8.
