The city of Taj emerged as the smartest city on Friday evening, in terms of the public participation it received to prepare the smart city proposal. Based on the suggestions and votes of the residents of the city, the proposal prepared by the Agra Municipal Corporation (AMC) received its approval from the state level high powered committee (HPC).
Due to lack of time the proposal would be first forwarded to the central government by December 15 and will then be tabled at the city parliament.
"The smart city proposal of Agra was one of the best in terms of all round development and public suggestions. The HPC approved it after considering various aspects and studying the proposal in detail. The HPC also appreciated the solutions put forward by the AMC keeping in mind the various problems that could arise in course of the implementation of the proposal," said Anil Kumar, deputy municipal commissioner.
He added, "The initiatives approved by the HPC include plans related to e-governance, waste management, water management, urban mobility and energy management. Core infrastructural plans related to sewage, drainage, water supply and parking have also been approved."
Suggestions made by the residents of Agra were lauded by all and were also counted among the best. The HPC also recognized the efforts of the Agra Municipal Corporation in ensuring large public participation.
To ensure such large scale participation, the Agra Nagar Nigam had arranged a plethora activities and initiatives using different platforms. To draw these suggestions the Nagar Nigam did not only use online platforms like Twitter and Facebook but also took steps like ward wise consultation, essay writing competitions and vision statement competition to identify the vision and goals of the smart city plan.
Along with Agra, the smart city proposals of Bareilly, Shahranpur and Muradabad were also appreciated by the state level HPC.
