Angami Public Organisation (APO) has expressed serious concern over the poor mobile service/connectivity provided by various telecom companies operating in Nagaland. In a press note, APO vice president, K.T. Vilie said the quality of internet and call connectivity/clarity has become a frustrating experience, with poor signal reception and repeated call drops without being able to have even a short conversation.

Vilie said that the biggest drawback was the dismal speed of internet connectivity. He said despite the Central government giving much emphasis on Digital India mission and promoting e-Governance for effective delivery system of governance and utility services to the people, the poor quality of basic internet services offered by various telecom companies have turned the Centre’s flagship programmes into a mockery.

He lamented that the authorities concerned were not bothered and have rather turned a blind eye to improve the issue. This can only be surmised as a direct reflection of the insincerity of the telecom officials, he said.

Vilie pointed out that the Quality of Service (QOS) standards are governed by the regulations specified by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and hence, the subscribers should come forward to air their grievances and avail redressal accordingly since a subscriber-base empowered with awareness will keep the service providers on its toes.

In this regard, Vilie has requested all the service providers to positively rectify the problems within the shortest possible time in the interest of public welfare. If not, Vilie cautioned that the civil societies would be compelled to call for joint meetings to hammer out due course of appropriate action in the matter and for which the aggrieved subscribers would not be held responsible for any form of public agitation/uprising.
