eGovernment Authority plans to increase the total number of apps to 26 by the start of 2014

eGovernment authority Vice-CEO Dr Zakareya Ahmed Al Khaja has announced the details of the Government Apps Store which was launched by Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, the Minister of Transportation during the opening ceremony of MEET ICT 2013.

Dr Al Khaja pointed out that the store currently provides 21 applications and has plans to increase the total number of apps to 26 by the beginning of 2014 based on the eGovernment strategic objectives as one key performance indicator to launch 10 new mobile apps annually until 2016.

Dr AlKhaja confirmed that the eGovernment Authority already implemented a set of apps which run on all smart device platforms. Recently the authority launched the Government Apps Store as a one-stop shop to research and download required applications easily and conveniently at any time and from anywhere.

A number of applications are developed by the eGovernment Authority in coordination with the related entities, while other applications are launched in the Apps Store after being developed by the public entity.

The Vice-CEO also emphasized that the usage of applications have been accessed by a large cross-section of the population and pointed out that this growth is realised as a result of the awareness-raising campaigns as well as reaching out to the wider public through various channels to provide them with in-depth insights about the applications and their benefits. Such surge, in the downloading rate, is a good indicator that assisted in supporting the public’s confidence in the governmental entities’ apps which are service-focused in nature.

The applications have also enhanced channels of communication with customers, keeping pace with new concepts and modern apps — with a view to carry out a full range of transactions.

The Arabian Gulf University (AGU) recently hosted the 9th GCC Medical Education Conference with the theme ‘Needs, Challenges and Opportunities’ in the presence of Education Minister Dr Majid bin Ali Al Noaimi and Health Minister Minister Sadiq bin Abdul-Kareem Al Shehabi.

The conference participants discussed the importance of provision of appropriate academic environment for student creativity in the education process and dealing with medical students as partners in educational decision-making and not only as recipients.

The AGU Deputy Dean for Higher Studies and Academic Research, head of the Conference Organising Committee, Dr Randa Hamada, said that the conference in which circa 500 academicians, physicians, researchers and students from medical and health science colleges participated came up with important conclusions which could enrich medical education and its advancement, especially if medical and science students could be engaged in drafting future strategies as these young men and women can decide futuristic trends in academic medical research.
