The Ministry of Labour (MoL) is using a satellite network to trace bogus companies, the Labour Minister has said.

Dr Ali bin Abdullah Al Kaabi told Khaleej Times that the ministry had also launched e-packages to register companies and prepared a map to help inspectors gain easy and quick access to work sites.

“The service is the first of its kind in the world insofar as e-government is concerned. The project will depend on highly accurate satellite images. It will be linked to a flexible database to receive applications and retrieve data on firms.”

Terming the project a giant leap towards e-governance, he said it will primarily target firms guilty of irregularities and also offer the service of issuing group permits within a record time of less than 48 hours. “The ministry’s services to firms will be of the highest standard with regard to internal performance as they will ensure accuracy and neutrality,” he said.

Ahmed Kajour, Assistant Under-Secretary for Planning and Computers, MoL, said each firm will have a six-digit number to make monitoring easier.

The new system will register details about companies electronically and will take into account rent contracts and their duration, location and movement of workers. “This will wipe out fake firms,” he said. He added the ministry will also keep photos of company buildings to prevent anyone from procuring visas by deception.

“These services will save time and effort. Cameras will be installed and maps will be used for inspection. Around 20,000 firms will be registered across the country per month,” said Kajour.

The initiative, the minister added, is part of the UAE leadership’s efforts to modernise all sectors of the labour market.

“It aims to find mechanisms for decision-makers to consider ground realities and use the system as an effective tool for planning and regulating the labour market,” said Dr Al Kaabi.
