The ceremony was organized as part of the Environmental and Health Education Office's activities on the occasion of the World Environment Day, which falls on June 5.
Eng. Abdullah Rafeeu, Assistant Director General for Environment and Public Health Affairs, who inaugurated the website, said the move is in consonance with the directives of the UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum on having the maximum number of e-government services.
He said it also goes along with the strategic objectives of Dubai Municipality to have constant contacts with the public, hoping that the website will increasingly support the activities of the Office in creating environmental and health awareness among the public.
Rafeeu also honoured companies and individuals who contributed to the environmental awareness campaigns of the Office within the last six months.
Eng. Hamdan Al Shaer, Director of Environment Department, Eng. Salem Bin Mesmar, Director of Public Health Department, Eng. Taleb Julfar, Director of Drainage and Irrigation Department, Eng. Redha Salman, Head of Environmental Protection and Safety Section, Sara Ibrahim Al Sayegh, Head of Environmental and Health Education Office and many other officials of the Municipality were present on the occasion.
The website, with the motto "Looking for an aware community that is committed to the environmental and healthy aspects," contains application forms for participating in awareness lectures, forms for availing publications and documents on environment, workshop schedules, listing of awareness events organized by the Office, latest news, application form for subscribing newsletter, opinion poll about the awareness services, strategic document about the Office, list of NGOs dealing with the Office with their addresses, kid's info and kid's websites and links to other environmental websites.
Many other events are planned by the Environmental and Health Education Office to mark the World Environment Day. A lecture and a workshop covering climate change aspects in addition to competitions, titled "Invitation to environmental reading," will be held in collaboration with Children's Libraries Section at the newly opened Al Twar library on 7th June.
On 14th June, 413 active office staff and field workers from various departments and sections of the Municipality will be honoured at a ceremony to be organized at Al Nasr Sports Club.
In a symposium, to be organized in collaboration with the Friends of Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad, an environmental organization at the Municipality Staff Club on June 15, Mr. Adi Afaneh and Dr. Abdul Qader will speak on different aspects of climate change. In addition, schools that won the Environment Article competition will be honoured during the function.
