Transforming Government since 2001
Dubai eGovernment is to introduce two new initiatives – an electronic import/export permit and an online signature system – by the end of the year.

E-Permit and Cyber-Sign will be implemented by Saudi Arabia-based Somac Information Technology and Dubai-based Al Taqnyah Business Solutions.

Import and export businesses normally require a lot of paperwork and have to go through a long series of procedures with various government departments. E-Permit will help streamline these processes by cutting down paperwork, especially the number of forms required to obtain permissions and carry out business processes. In addition it will make the entire process visible to different ministry departments.

"Different permissions are required from different government entities and this translates into a long process," said Yasser S Al Farhan, Managing Director of Somac. "The concept is to make it electronic rather than to have different interfaces. It will be implemented across the UAE and will extend to Qatar as well. The chamber of commerce in Jeddah and the financial sector in Bahrain have also shown interest in the product."

Cyber-Sign is intended to make life easier for consumers wishing to use government services.

Al Taqnyah Managing Director Dr Usman Zafar said: "This product will be used by Dubai eGovernment to get signatures without the consumer being physically present. The consumer will be able to sign and send documents through the web. The system is very secure."
