The UAE's new ambitious ID card and population register programme will forge a head with its plan to lay down the foundation for a bridge to a dynamic technological space that can contribute to building a flexible modern life, according to Lt.General H.H. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior.

''Such a life will provide the ID card holders with easy movement, thus saving both time and energy, Sheikh Saif stated today on the occasion of the opening of the forum and exhibition of ID cards in the capital.

He said the UAE had already commenced a massive operation to automate all government transactions under the ambitious e-government initiative.

Sheikh Saif said the two-day international gathering would provide an ideal forum for attending countries to boost cooperation among them and share technological and administrative experiences in the field of smart cards.

''We are facing huge technological challenges but at the same time we pin high hope on the coming achievements and successes,' he added.

The event will see the launch of the launch of a global specialised ID cards academy.

A group of senior government officials and experts on IT security and biometrics will discuss a wide-range topics related to ID and smart cards, and Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID).
