The Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research in Abu Dhabi will organise the 17th Annual Scientific Conference of the Faculty of Law of the UAE University on Tuesday and the two-day event will be titled ‘Electronic transactions: e-commerce — e-government’.

Dr Jassim Ali Salem Al Shamsi, the Dean of the Faculty of Law at UAE University said that there are important developments that have occurred recently for a look into the legal problems arising from the revolution of modern communication technology.

He added that the most important of these developments is that the UAE has become a part of the electronic transaction process and has adopted the concept of e-government which is considered a criteria measured by the degree of progress of nations. Al Shamsi said, “The conference aims at supporting the federal law No. (1) of the 2006 on facilitating e-commerce transactions and review the Arab and foreign legislation in this field."

He added that the conference will discuss e-commerce legislation in various countries, its jurisdictions applications, e-government, intellectual property rights, electronic transactions, e-contract, e-mail of proof, the work of banks and electronic brokerage as well as examine the scientific study of law to determine its pros and cons.”

He said that a select group of researchers and academics in law and electronic commerce will participate in the conference.
