Transforming Government since 2001
Dubai Cassation Court verdicts can be accessed from iPad and iPhone

Dubai Landmark rulings and precedents, stipulated by Dubai’s highest court between 1988 and 2009, have become accessible to the public as part of a new e-service launched by Dubai Public Prosecution yesterday.

All landmark rulings and precedents stipulated by Dubai Cassation Court [since its establishment in 1988] until December 2009 have become available, to the public as well as the judicial industry’s members as part of the new e-service named Mabade’, said Dubai’s Attorney General Essam Eisa Al Humaidan.

“This is a joint electronic service that the Dubai Public Prosecution (DPP) and Dubai Courts Department (DCD) are launching today [yesterday] along with the beginning of Gitex. This is the highest and most sophisticated e-service to be launched in the justice sector. The newly launched e-service is downloadable for a certain fee for iPad and iPhone users. It serves the public and members of the justice system [prosecutors, judges and lawyers],” Al Humaidan told reporters at the DPP’s stall at Gitex 2010.

He said the Cassation Courts’ landmark rulings and precedents which were stipulated in criminal, civil, commercial, labour, Sharia and personal status lawsuits have become available through Mabade’.

“DCD and DPP have taken this joint step due to Dubai Government’s interest in spreading legal awareness in our society by adopting high-tech advancements and making the best use of it,” added Al Humaidan.

Crucial for end users

Dr Ahmad Bin Hazeem Al Suwaidi, DCD’s Director General, said: “Mabade’ may sound simple initiative, but its content is crucially important to the end-users of DPP and DCD.”

DPP’s Head of E-Services Section, Hind Hassan Al Zarouni said Mabade’ is user-friendly and contains a simple search engine.

“Users won’t find any trouble in going through the search engine. The database can be surfed by index, case number, year or subject or title. According to a special Gitex offer, downloading Mabade’ on iPad costs $150 [Dh550] and on iPhone costs $100 [Dh367],” said Hind.
