Transforming Government since 2001
Portal to combine networks and shared services

The Dubai Municipality's eGovernment has launched a new website to better educate users on the ten-year effort to make government services easily available through the internet.

Ahmad Mohammad Bin Humaidan, Director General of Dubai eGovernment, confirmed the launch of the new website to coincide with Gitex Technology Week in an interview with Gulf News on Sunday.

"People are always asking us how do we work, how do we get services?" said Bin Humaidan. "On the website we talk about government networks and shared services."

Located on the new www.deg.gov.ae are links to the familiar Dubai links giving residents access to a world of government services such as Dubai government's official portal www.Dubai.ae.

There are also links to ejob, mobile portal and ecomplain on eGovernment's new website.

Opening more channels

Website visitors can also link to existing links for services online such as ePay to pay fines, Salik or bills.

"This new wesbite is all about opening more channels for our customers," said Bin Humaidan. As part of 2,000 government services offered through 27 government departments via the internet, Bin Humaidan said that from January to June 10 of this year, there were 835,000 ePay transactions online worth Dh1.1 billion.

Residents also logged 23,000 direct debit transactions so far this year compared with 13,000 in 2009.

On eGovernment's Mdubai SMS message service, 36 million messages were recorded in the first six months of the year for an average of six million emessages per month.

Bin Humaidan said that eGovernment is not content to rest on its laurels and continues to reach out to customers to learn what types of services they want from their government.

A new survey is asking residents for their thoughts to help shape better e-policies in the future, he said.
