Transforming Government since 2001
A delegation from the Ministry of Finance and the National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) has visited the General Information Authority (GIA) to explore potential cooperation in the application of the electronic payment systems and the use of the second generation of the e-Dirham at the level of federal ministries and entities.

The visiting delegation included Faisal Al Mansouri, Director of Revenue Development Department at the Ministry of Finance, Emad Ahmed Abdul Wahabm e-Dirham Project Manager at the Ministry, Ahmed Al Naqbi, Senior Manager, Channels and Electronic Banking Services at National Bank of Abu Dhabi and Rania Al Fayed, e-Dirham Project Manager at NBAD.

H.E. Salem Khamis Al Shair Al Suwaidi, Director General of the General Information Authority welcomed the visiting delegation and expressed readiness of GIA to work closely with the Ministry of Finance to enhance electronic payment in the UAE and support the adoption of the second generation of e-Dirham in all government entities in the UAE.

Al Suwaidi said, "We are very interested in the electronic payment system which is essential for developing effective and user friendly government services. Since the General Information Authority is currently working on developing the e-Government strategy at the federal level, I think cooperation with the Ministry of Finance comes at the right time."

GIA team listened to a presentation about the features of the second generation of the e-Dirham and the steps that have been taken to link the eDirham -2nd Generation with the different ministries and future measures to link all federal ministries and entities with the the e-Dirham system.

The General Information Authority has earlier launched the UAE federal portal (government.ae) which will eventually provide all government services in the UAE. Even though the portal currently focuses on providing services from federal ministries and entities, its scope of work is not limited to federal services. The UAE e-Government will be the umbrella for all e-Government projects in the country.

Commenting on this issue, Al Suwiaidi said, "The user doesn't care if the services are classified as federal or local. All that matters to him is to get the service and pay for it quickly and easily from his any computer with an internet connection."

"Electronic payment has always been the missing component in many government electronic services. That's why we are happy to work with the Ministry of Finance to bridge that gap," Al Suwaidi added.
